ELECTRICITY PRODUCTION IN ARMENIA IN JANUARY-MAY THIS YEAR INCREASES BY 16% TO 3.1 BILLION KWH

YEREVAN

Electricity production in Armenia in January-May this year increased
by 16% from a year earlier to about 3.1 billion kWh, the National
Statistical Service told ARKA.

It said the volume of electricity generated by thermal power plants
increased 2.7 times compared to the same period in 2010, amounting to
878.9 million kWh, while production by hydroelectric power stations
decreased by 7.6% to 1.078.2 million kWh. The thermal power plants
accounted for 28.5% of the total output, while hydropower plants for
35% of the total volume.

The Armenian nuclear power plant generated 1.124.6 million kWh (3.7%
less than in January-May 2010).

It accounted for 36.5% of the total electricity generated in the
country in Jan-May 2011. Also some 1.9 million kWh electricity was
produced by the wind farm, a 17.4% decline compared to the same period
of 2010. The share of wind power in total electricity generation was
0.06%.
