Ridiculous fines of Environmental Inspection

ArmInfo. 100,000 AMD ($ 300): this is the amount that the State
Environmental Inspection of Nature Protection Ministry fined Zangezour
Copper and Molybdenum Combine for the leak of 50 tons of tails into
the Voghji River, EcoLur says.
The damage itself caused to environment is estimated at 650 thsd AMD
(approximately 1800 USD).
As known, this enterprise tails contain chemicals used for ore
flotation. Besides, tails contain all the metals present in original
ore – copper, molybdenum, as well as such mixtures as rhenium,
selenium, tellurium and bismuth. All these metals are considered as
toxic for environment and health.
Too interesting to find out which standards State Environmental
Inspection was guided by, what kind of analyses were carried out and
how damages and the amount of fine were determined? The content of
which elements exceeded maximum permissible concentration, where,
particularly in which places and when?
Kapan-based “For Ensuring Ecological Safety and Developing Democracy”
NGO shares these fears. NGO representative Artur Ghazaryan said,
“100,000 AMD – this is a fine that can be imposed by a highway
patrolman if to drive under red light. State Environmental Inspection
protects us and our environment in the amount of this sum.
