SOUTH CAUCASUS RAILWAYS TO INVEST 1.4 BILLION RUBLES IN UPGRADING SYSTEM

YEREVAN, June 1, /ARKA/. The South Caucasus Railways (SCR) company
managing Armenian railroads, said in a press release today it will
invest a total of 1.4 billion Russian rubles in upgrading Armenian
railways facilities.

According to the press release, the company has approved today
components of its investment program. The funds will be channeled
to develop transport junctures, modernize depots for locomotives,
development of information technology. The Russian-owned company
said implementation of these projects would help improve the overall
operation of the railroads.

The South Caucasus Railways is run by Russian Railways. The
concessional agreement was concluded in 2008 for 30 years, with a
right of extension for another 20 years after the first 20 years
of operation.
