Armenia’s President Serzh Sargsyan welcomed at his presidential
residence the Czech Prime Minister Jan Fischer on May 17.

Sargsyan said he was sure that this visit would give a new impetus to
the Armenian Czech cooperation both in bilateral and multi-lateral
formats. He also said Armenia was very much interested in deepening
the relations with the Czech Republic, adding that there is a huge
but unrealized potential in the current bilateral economic relations.

Jan Fischer, in turn, said he paid importance to the cooperation with
South Caucasus states, and that there are several perspectives for
the enlargement of the cooperation with Armenia.

At the same time he drew attention to the importance of developing
economic ties, expressing hope that the Armenian-Czech business forum
held in the framework of his visit greatly will contribute to it.

The parties also touched upon the Nagorno Karabakh issue.

Jan Fischer said that his country has a well-balanced stance over the
issue, and that the Karabakh issue should be resolved upon an agreement
between the sides and in the framework of the OSCE Minsk Group.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
