ArmInfo. Cooperation between Armenia and Azerbaijan is impossible
unless the Nagorno Karabakh conflict is resolved, Azerbaijani Minister
of Agriculture Ismet Abbasov told reporters on the sidelines of UN
(FAO) Regional Conference for Europe and Central Asia, which kicked
off in Marriott hotel, Yerevan, on May 13.

"Agriculture in Azerbaijan develops very dynamically, and our
honourable Mr. President Ilham Aliyev pays special, kind of, daily
attention to its development. The poverty in our country has reduced
by 4 times and now makes up 10-11%, even with the developed countries.

All this is due to the policy carried out by our country’s honourable
president Ilham Aliyev. There will be no poor in Azerbaijan, as the
president permanently note in his speeches that there should remain
no poor man in the country", I. Abbasov said.

Asked about the possible cooperation between Armenian and Azerbaijan
Abbasov said: "It is still early to speak about it because, as you
know, there is a conflict between our countries which cannot be solved
already for several years. I will be frank with you. I think there
will be no cooperation, unless this conflict is resolved".

At the journalists’ request, the Azerbaijani Minister told that he
was born in Yerevan and attended the School number 9, next to the
former Hanrapetakan (Republican) Stadium. "I last visited Armenia in
December 1987. I missed Armenia during these years. With permission of
President Ilham Aliyev, I visited Vardenis where my relatives used to
live for many years. I think the photographs I took will be a great
surprise for them," Abbasov said in Armenian.

As I. Abbasov said, the next European and regional conference of the
UN Food and Agriculture Organization will be held in 2012 in Baku.

"The Azerbaijani opposition may be against my visit to Yerevan.

Newspapers may write anything – probably, much is written about
ministers and officials in your country as well. However, I arrived
here with the permission of my honourable president I. Aliyev. You
now that the next FAO regional conference will be held in Baku. So,
I arrived in Yerevan and hope that a big Armenian delegation will
also arrive in Baku in 2012", Abbasov said.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
