President Serzh Sargsyan issued a congratulatory address on the
occasion of the Day of Victory and Peace.

`Dear compatriots,
Respected veterans,

The victorious end of the Great Patriotic War was a historical event
for our people and country that served as a new start, a new impulse
to work diligently and creatively to raise our economy and culture to
a new level. Our people spared no efforts to gain that victory.

We had man human losses, whose memory will remain bright in the memory
of the generations to come. We had heroes and commanders, whose feats
of arms serve as an example of patriotism and martial art for the
contemporary and the coming generations.

As fate has willed, another victory was registered in the Armenian
history on the same day in 1992. The liberation of Shoushi brought
honor and glory to the Armenian soldiers. It was our response to
those, who launched ethnic cleansings, massacres and war against our
people. The Armenian nation is now resolute to live free and not to
tolerate any assault against it.

Dear compatriots,
Today we bow before the immortal memory of those who achieved the May
victories. With their blood they gained our people’s right to live and
develop, the historic opportunity and perspectives. We are grateful to
them.

Once again I congratulate all of us on this great holiday. We are
proud of our victories and the creative work that comes to reinforce
those victories.’

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
