Armenians in Turkey appreciate RA President’s initiatives on
Armenia-Turkey normalization process, chief editor of Istanbul-based
"Zhamanak" daily Ara Gochunyan stated in the interview with NEWS.am
commenting on RA President’s decision to halt the ratification of
Armenia-Turkey Protocols.

"Armenians in Turkey display keen interest in the course of process.

The ratification suspension was not a surprise to them, as the
normalization implies complex harbors being connected with certain
difficulties. We see Armenia advances steadily, adhering to its
principles and remaining committed to the objective in ensuring
significance in the region," he said.

According to him, it is crucial for Turkish Armenian community that
Armenia stays in the process, but "considering the current situation,
Yerevan suspended the process and the president clearly stated that
whenever Turkey is ready for the ratification, Armenia will reconsider
its decision." He also added that the decision on suspension will
not affect Armenian community in Turkey in any way.

April 22, RA President Serzh Sargsyan signed a decree on suspension
of the Armenia-Turkey Protocols’ ratification signed in Zurich last
October on "Establishment of Diplomatic Relations between the Republic
of Armenia and the Republic of Turkey" and "Protocol on Development
of Relations between the Republic of Armenia and the Republic of
Turkey, explaining it by destructive position of Turkish officials
and protraction of Protocols’ ratification.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
