ArmInfo. "Armenian President Serge Sargsyan’s statement on suspension
of the process of ratification of the Armenian-Turkish protocols was
affirmation of the deadlock Ankara has led the Armenian-Turkish process
to," says Ruben Safrastyan, Director of the Institute of Oriental
Studies at the Armenian National Academy of Science, turkologist,
Doctor of Science (History), Professor.

In an interview with ArmInfo, R. Safrastyan says: "In his statement
yesterday, the president affirmed the situation that Turkey has
created by its preconditions. The fact that the process has faced a
deadlock is a logical result of Turkey’s recent steps". As regards
the possible response measures by Turkey, R. Safrastyan thinks that
Ankara will take no steps apart from usual threats against Armenia
and statements that Turkey is committed to the Protocols. Turkey
just needs to demonstrate that it is committed to the principle of
normalization of the Armenian-Turkish relations, because it has
found itself isolated because of its useless efforts to link the
Armenian-Turkish process and the Karabakh conflict. "Turkey is not
ready yet to refuse from linking the two processes. Neither it is
favorable for Turkey to terminate the process," he says. On the eve of
the 95th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide, on April 22 President of
Armenia Serzh Sargsyan signed a decree on suspension of the process
of ratification of the Armenian-Turkish Protocols. Nevertheless,
Armenia does not recall its signature from under the Protocols to
keep the opportunity of establishing relations with Turkey.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
