Azeribaijan’s foreign minister on Monday praised Turkish mediation
in efforts to settle the Nagorno- Karabakh conflict. "It is very
important. It is too early to speak of whether there will be any
progress, but it is important for us that, with Turkish participation,
we are stepping up negotiations on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict,"
Elmar Mammadyarov told a joint briefing with his Turkish counterpart,
Ahmet Davutoglu.

Mammadyarov added that the American and Russian co-chairmen of the
Minsk Group, part of the Organization for Security and Co-operation
in Europe that is mediating in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, are
due in Baku on Tuesday.

Davutoglu, who earlier met with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev,
said he had briefed the Azerbaijani leader on the results of talks
in Washington last week between Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip
Erdogan and Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan.

Mammadyarov and Davutoglu also discussed the Iranian nuclear program
issue.
