BAKU, APRIL 20, NOYAN TAPAN – ARMENIANS TODAY. President of Azerbaijan
Ilham Aliyev hosted Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu on
April 19. The sides underlined the necesiity to strengthen the
Turkish-Azerbaijani friendship, promote cooperation of the two
countries and make joint efforts.

Azerbaijan’s mass media reported that Ahmet Davutoglu informed Aliyev
about the details of the Washington meeting between Armenian President
Serzh Sargsyan and Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

Davutoglu gave a press conference, during which he declared that
among Turkey’s main missions are resolution of the Karabakh problem
and liberation of Azerbaijani territories.

According to him, Ankara’s goal is to ensure normal relations, open
borders, confidence and security in the South Caucasus. He expressed
a hope that they will manage to achieve this goal thanks to joint
efforts with the OSCE Minsk Group.

Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mamedyarov attached importance
to the information that his Turkish counterpart had provided about
the Washington meetings. "It is early to speak about progress, but
it is important that with the help of Turkey we are activating the
negotiations on the Karabakh problem," he said.
