EU URGES TURKEY TO NORMALIZE RELATIONS WITH ARMENIA

EU Enlargement Commissioner Stefan Fule called on Turkey to step up
efforts in Armenia-Turkey reconciliation process and open its ports
to Cyprus, EU business website reports.

Fule also underlined importance of Armenia-Turkey relations’
normalization to overcome a century-old hostility over recognition
of Armenian Genocide in Ottoman Empire.

After meeting with Turkish FM Ahmet Davutoglu, EU Commissioner also
noted that born in Czechoslovakia he knows that politicizing history
might complex reconciliation.

Commenting on Cyprus dispute, Fule stressed that EU attaches major
significance to normalization of Turkey’s relations with Cyprus,
considering it a breakthrough "to the benefit of both Turkey and
the EU."
