Energy output totaled 5.68bn kwh in Armenia this year – a 7% decrease
as compared with last year.

At his news conference RA Minister of Energy Armen Movsisyan said that
the economic crisis caused many enterprises to stop their operation,
which accounts for the decrease in energy output.

Movsisyan is satisfied with the output of water power – 2bn kwh. The
energy output of small hydropower plants reached 335m kwh this year
against 229kwh last year. "The construction of small hydropower plants
produces prompt results, and the program has proved its worth. The
energy production potential of Armenian hydropower plants is 5m kwh,
while the current energy output is 350m kwh. The rest 150m kwh will be
produced after 150 new small hydropower plants have been constructed,"
the Minister said.

He also reported a decrease in the energy output of thermal power
plants percentage wise. This year’s output was a little more than
1bn kwh against 1.8bn kwh last year.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
