The First Lady of Latvia, Mrs. Lilita Zatlere and the First Lady of
Armenia, Mrs. Rita Sargsyan toured the Cafesjian Center’s exhibition
galleries on December 11th, 2009. The First Ladies were accompanied by
the spouse of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia Mrs. Natalia
Nalbandyan, and the spouse of the Armenian Ambassador to Latvia,
Mrs. Albina Galoyan.

This is the second visit of high ranking officials following the
opening of the Center on November 7th, when the President of the
Republic of Armenia Mr. Serzh Sargsyan and the Catholicos of All
Armenians Garegin II honored the inauguration of the Cafesjian Center
for the Arts with their presence.

Inspired by the vision of its founder and main benefactor Mr. Gerard
L. Cafesjian, the Center offers a wide variety of exhibitions, many
of which are derived from Mr. Cafesjian’s own extensive collection of
contemporary art. This collection is of unusual breadth and contains
more than 5,000 works, including one of the most comprehensive glass
collections in the world.

In addition to its vigorous exhibition schedule, the Cafesjian Center
for the Arts offers a diverse entertainment program that includes
weekly movies, jazz concerts and monthly wine tasting events. For
a detailed schedule of events, please visit the Center’s website

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
