The deputy head of the Armenian presidential administration, Vigen
Sargsyan, has said President Serzh Sargsyan did not visit the Armenian
genocide memorial in Monte Bello, State of California "because this
visit had not been scheduled", state-owned Armenian Public TV reported
on 6 November.

Reports were spread ahead of Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan’s
planned departure from Los Angeles to Beirut in the morning of 6
October that members of the Armenian community were waiting for the
president near the genocide memorial in Monte Bello, TV reported.

Vigen Sargsyan said the president extended his support to those who
gathered near the Genocide memorial "because he believes that we should
ascribe importance to and remember innocent victims of the genocide
especially in these days", Armenian Public TV reported. The official
said that the president had not managed to visit the memorial due to
"his tight schedule" and added that the delegation headed by the
president would be departing to Beirut in a few minutes, TV said.

BBCM note: Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan has been on a tour to
France, the USA, Lebanon and Russia to meet members of Armenian
communities in these countries in order to discuss with them the
Yerevan government’s efforts to mend ties with neighbouring Turkey. The
two countries may sign documents on establishing diplomatic relations
on 10 October.
