Secretary of State Hillary Clinton departed Friday for a global
diplomacy tour, which will see her travel to Europe and Russia to
discuss Iran, Afghanistan and weapons control with foreign nations.

Clinton will visit Switzerland, Britain, Ireland and Russia during the
five-day trip. Much of the discussion between Clinton and the world
leaders she’ll meet with is expected to revolve around pushing for
harsh sanctions against Iran and drumming up support for U.S. efforts
in Afghanistan, aides said.

Clinton’s first stop is Zurich, Switzerland, where she will
witness the signing of a pact designed to improve relations between
rivals Turkey and Armenia. She’ll then move to Dublin and Belfast,
attempting to moderate religious tension in Northern Ireland and
improve British-Irish communication.

She’ll visit London on Sunday, meeting with British Prime Minister
Gordon Brown and Foreign Secretary David Miliband. In Moscow, her last
stop, Clinton is expected to push Russian President Dmitry Medvedev
and Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov for penalties against Iran if it
refuses to suspend its uranium enrichment progress.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
