During the stay in Los Angeles, the President of the Republic of
Armenia, Serzh Sargsyan, had a phone conversation with President
Barack Obama of the United States. The conversation took place at
the initiative of the American side.

President Obama expressed his support for the efforts of the
Armenian President towards the normalization of the Armenian-Turkish
relations. The US President once again confirmed the official
stance of the United States that the process of normalization of the
Armenian-Turkish relations should proceed without any precondition
and should not be tied to the process of settlement of the Nagorno
Karabakh conflict.

President Serzh Sargsyan expressed gratitude to the US President for
the support to the Armenian-Turkish process, and shared his impressions
from the pan-Armenian tour. The Armenian President stressed that
the concerns of the world-spread Armenians were natural, taking into
consideration that the Armenian nation was subjected to genocide by
Ottoman Turkey, a fact President Barack Obama has repeatedly mentioned
in his speeches.

Serzh Sargsyan expressed gratitude to President Obama for the mediation
of the US as an OSCE Minsk Group co-chair country and underlined
Armenia’s willingness to move forward towards resolution of the issue
based on the expression of free will of the NKR people and the determi
nation of the final legal status of Artsakh, which lays in the basis
of the Madrid Principles proposed by the Minsk Group Co-Chairs.
