MPs from the "Heritage" and ARF parties Zaruhi Postanjyan and Ruzanna
Arakelyan accused each other during today’s debate on Turkish-Armenian
relations.

"Nobody can deny the fact that the ARF supported Serzh Sargsyan after
Robert Kocharyan, meaning that the current protocols on
Turkish-Armenian relations didn’t come out of nowhere. The ARF has
been in government and has supported Serzh Sargsyan starting March 1,"
said Mrs. Postanjyan.

She finds that the ARF is not instilling hope in the people by
demanding Nalbandyan’s resignation instead of Serzh Sargsyan’s
resignation.

"Many citizens would come to participate in your petition, if they
believed your leaders. The people don’t believe the ARF leaders. Your
MPs very often criticize and cast votes that are against their
criticism in the National Assembly. You have a distorted image."

Zaruhi Postanjyan also stated that the ARF did not give an adequate
response when the authorities were beating citizens on the night of
April 12, 2004.

"The impunity of April 12 led to the events of March 1 and the
impunity of March 1 will lead to new crimes."
Contradicting Mrs. Postanjyan, Ruzanna Arakelyan announced that unlike
"Heritage", the ARF has been in the political field for a long time
and plays a huge role in Armenia’s functioning as an independent
state.

"Yes, the ARF has been part of government because being in government,
we have prevented such actions that could have been dangerous for our
people, such as issues concerning the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and
Turkish-Armenian relations. We are not going to take steps that will
lead to turbulence. The political party that tries to solve issues by
going to the extreme has no other way of fighting. The ARF always has
new ideas and ways to serve the country."

Mrs. Arakelyan doesn’t agree that the ARF is organizing hearings on
the Turkish-Armenian relations by the proposal of "Heritage".

"Armen Rustamyan is the president of the standing committee on
international relations and the hearings will take place by his
demand."

Interrupting Mrs. Avetisyan, Zaruhi Postanjyan declared that it
doesn’t matter who demands hearings and added: "Armen Rustamyan has
joined the written proposal by "Heritage" by word of mouth."

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
