"BIRTHDAY" OF ARMENIAN "NAIRI" FISHING SAILING SHIP CELEBRATED ON SEVAN LAKE

YEREVAN, August 24. /ARKA/. The "birthday" of "Nairi" fishing sailing
ship, built taking as a model a 9-century vessel, was celebrated on
Sevan Lake Sunday with assistance of HSBC Bank Armenia.

The vessel was launched a year ago through the efforts of "Aias"
sea club, CEO of HSBC Bank Armenia Tim Slater said.

The vessel may participate in sailing regattas and promote tourism
development, he said.

President of "Aias" club and captain of "Nairi" sailing ship Karen
Balayan said that the "birthday", the day when the ship was launched,
is a very important event for a ship.

"We are grateful to HSBC Bank Armenia as it is the first organization
to respond to our project. Under the program we plan to built several
similar ships and hold an annual regatta," Balayan said.

"Nairi" sailing ship is made of pine and weighs a ton. The length
of the sailer is 9 meters, width – 2.5 meters, carrying capacity –
15 passengers.

Drawings by Armenian artists Bashinjaghyan and Terlemezyan based on
old sketches were used to build the ship.

HSBC Bank Armenia closed joint stock company – a daughter bank of
HSBC Banl plc – was registered on September 25 1995. HSBC Bank plc
holds 70% of the shares of HSBC Bank Armenia with the remaining 30%
belonging to foreign Armenian investors. HSBC Bank Armenia is a member
of NASDAQ OMX Armenia as from the end of January this year.
