"A year after Georgia’s war Putin sends challenge to international
society," Italian "La Stampa" writes regarding Russian PM Vladimir
Putin’s visit to Abkhazia. "After the war Russian PM has been hosted
in Sukhumi as saviour, soldiers’ mothers called him guardian-angel,
and two new born in the local hospital have been named Vladimir and
Dmitry in honor of the PM and President. Putin expressed gratitude and
promised to provide 54 million euros economic support," paper writes.

Italian media outlet reports that Putin has not excluded restart of
a new war stressing that it would be more difficult for Georgia.

It was also stated that the Russian PM said UN and OSCE monitoring
mission representatives can visit Abkhazia only after recognizing
its independence.

Georgia’s Foreign Ministry condemned the visit as a "provocation
carried out quite in the tradition of Soviet special services".

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
