Greece and Cyprus intend to raise the question on 1974 massacres of
Greek war prisoners in Turkey on European Council agenda. The matter
concerns prisoners in Turkish captivity during the partial occupation
of the island by Turkish military troops.

The remains were found in Serdarli village of Turkish Republic of
Northern Cyprus. The Turkish Hurriyet daily reports: "Marios Karoyan
(President of Greek House of Representatives) and Dimitris Sioufas
(Greek Parliament Speaker) made a decision on joint cooperation for
drawing Europe’s attention to the issue." They intend to put the issue
on CoE agenda. Cyprus DISI Party MP Christos Pourgourides offered CoE
Secretary General Terri Davis to demand Turkey’s explanations on the
prisoners’ extermination. Greeks support their charges by showing
photos and presenting testimony of reporter Ergin Konukser who was
in Greek captivity in 1974. The latter stated that: "Greek prisoners
were killed by Turkish Mujahidins, not Turkish soldiers."
