YEREVAN, AUGUST 5, NOYAN TAPAN. The RA National Statistical Service
(NSS) has started preparations for the 2011 census. The NSS Head
Stepan Mnatsakanian said at the August 5 press conference that by the
goverment decision, a regular census will be carried out in Armenia
on October 12-21, 2011, while a test census will be taken on April
14-23, 2010 in the city of Sevan in Gegharkunik marz (province) and
the rural communities of Geghahovit, Gandzakar, Achjur and Khashtarak
in Tavush marz.

A commission has been set up for preparing and carrying out a
census. It will approve the estimates of expenses on the measures
envisaged for 5 years – in 2009-2013, whose total amount makes 2.5
billion drams, with most of expenses – about 1.9 billion drams to be
incurred in 2011. The largest share of the expenses (1.5 billion drams)
is envisaged for remuneration of those to be included temporarily in
the census work.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
