Leader of the People’s Party Tigran Karapetyan considers that the
document on amnesty submitted to the National Assembly is belated.

Therefore, the amnesty will not solve political issues and will not
have the importance it would have in April. Tigran Karapetyan reminds
that this is the 8th general pardon in the history of independent
Armenia.

Leader of the People’s Party believes that the amnesty will not apply
to all persons detained after the events of March 1. According to his
calculation, only 10-15 of them will be set free. "However, the pardon
is a positive phenomenon for me as a citizen, but it’s unacceptable if
it fails to result in stability and concord," Tigran Karapetyan said.

As for the Armenian National Congress, Tigran Karapetyan considers that
its hour of triumph is behind. "It does not exist as a pan-national
movement any linger," leader of the People’s Party said and added
that the Congress was just one of the elements on the political filed.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
