/PanARMENIAN.Net/ Armenian tae kwon-do youth team (below age 17)
finished competitions in XVII European championship held in Trelleborg,
Sweden. Defeating Romanian, British and Bosnian athletes, Varag
Aghadjanyan (weight class: 51 kg.) won title to semi-final in which
victory over Turkish tae kwon-do athlete Seitan Avaliku led him to a
bronze medal. Defeated in quarterfinal single combats, Haykaz Samvelyan
(w.c. below 59 kg.) and Vahagn Aghekyan (w.c. below 67 kg.) occupied
the 5th horizon in championship list.

The result may be deemed satisfactory, since Armenian young athletes
were not awarded medals over the past 5-6 years, RA Tae Kwon-Do
Federation President Vardan Khaghramanyan told a PanARMENIAN.Net
correspondent. "For me, it is a satisfactory result, because gold medal
was expected from Haykaz Samvelyan. All in all, it is a progress,"
Khaghramanyan said, adding that Armenian tae kwon-do team (cadets:
below age 15, coach: Zorayr Mekinyan) is to arrive in Zagreb, Croatia,
on June 24 to participate in third European Cadet Championship due for

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
