"Amendments to the tax legislation can lead to the government’s
resignation," the Heritage Party announced during today’s parliamentary
briefings.

The Party Leader, Armen Martirosian, says the demand
for the government’s resignation will not be posed by the
Heritage. Martirosian’s predictions were not accepted unanimously by
the NA forces.

"What do you mean by saying the government will resign? How can
you ask for a resignation of a party which is represented in the
Armenian government?" said member of the Orinats Yerkir Party Artsruni
Aghajanian.

He reminded that the government had been formed in the result of a
parliamentary election. Artsruni Aghajanian thinks tax amendments
can hardly cause a government reshuffle.

With regard to the upcoming mayoral election, Mr. Aghajanian assured
his colleagues that Yerevan will have a coalition government with
the OYK having an important role.

"No force can gain 40 per cent of votes during the mayoral election,"
said Mr. Aghajanian.

The Prosperous Armenia Party (BHK) also found Heritage’s predictions
ungrounded.

"I did know that the Heritage is gifted but I didn’t know that the
Party can make predictions," said BHK member Naira Zurabian thinks
the government will not resign.

"I have some reservations wit the packet of tax amendments and I
am going to raise my concerns during the next four-day sitting,"
she added.

The Leader of the Republican Party, Galust Sahakian considered the
rumours about the government’s alleged resignation a lie spread by
the opposition.

"All their efforts are in vain. The opposition should serve as an
alternative and needn’t disseminate fabricated rumours."

The ARF-Dashnaktsutyun also excluded the government’s
resignation. Dashnaktsutyuan’s candidate for the city mayor, Artsvik
Minasian, says "unless the government returns to the norms ratified by
a 2008 crisis management program, its resignation will be inevitable."

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
