EDWARD NALBANDYAN INVITES HILLARY CLINTON TO VISIT ARMENIA

Foreign Minister of Armenia Edward Nalbandyan and US Secretary of
State Hillary Clinton met in Washington on May 5.

As Armenia’s Foreign Ministry press service reports, H. Clinton
said that the USA are interested in tightening and development
of multilateral relations with Armenia, and President Obama’s
administration intends to extend the cooperation between the two
countries. For his part, E. Nalbandyan emphasized that Armenia
attaches importance to more tightening of relations with the USA,
it will be consistent in development of friendly partner relations
and deepening of cooperation.

E. Nalbandyan and H. Clinton discussed a wide spectrum of issues
concerning different spheres of bilateral relations, the opportunities
of development and extension of economic cooperation. They also touched
on the upcoming session of the Armenian- American intergovernmental
commission in Yerevan in May and discussed a number of international
and regional issues.

The parties also discussed the process of normalization of the
Armenian-Turkish relations. US Secretary of State called April 22

She confirmed the USA’s stance to keep on assisting to normalization
of the Armenian-Turkish relations.

The parties discussed the current stage of Nagorno Karabakh conflict
settlement and touched on the upcoming meeting of the Armenian
and Azerbaijani presidents. H. Clinton emphasized the necessity
of peaceful settlement of the conflict and said the USA as OSCE MG
cochairman intends to keep on assisting to achievement of consent and
problem resolution by the parties, that will create opportunities for
development of the South Caucasus region, strengthening of stability
and security.

E. Nalbandyan familiarized H. Clinton with the course of the reforms
under implementation in Armenia and the steps in this direction. In the
end of the meeting, E. Nalbandyan invited H. Clinton to visit Armenia.
