In January Turkey’s jobless rate rose to the record 15.5%, with 1
million people having joined the army of the unemployed within a year,
Turkish Sabah daily writes. Currently, 3,650 million people do not
have job. This is more than the population of any of 110 countries in
world, including Uruguay, Albania and Armenia. The unemployment rate
in some sectors, agriculture excluded, went up from 13.7% to 19% in
the period January 2008 – January 2009. In cities the jobless people
are 17.8%, while in rural areas – 25%. The unemployment rate among
youths is the highest one – 27.9%. In January 2008 it was 21.2%.
