SHANT HARUTUNYAN’S STATEMENT

LRAGIR.AM

I, Shant Harutunyan, declare that it has been 24 days I’m in the
psychiatric hospital of Nubarashen, where I’m held in inhumane
conditions. I would like to note that all this time I have been
deprived of having a walk of 10 minutes. In fact, it is almost a month
I have not seen either the sun, or have breathed fresh air. In the
nights, I can hardly sleep because of the cold. I’m deprived of the
elementary domestic conditions. I’m sure that even the Turks would not
treat their hostages the way I’m being treated by the ministry of
health of Armenia.

I state that the judge Mnatsakan Martirosyan’s verdict was not to
carry out a court-medical examination towards me, but it was just a
sentence. Being afraid that in the course of my trial the public will
realize what a mortal enemy is the Russian empire for Armenia, as well
as it will rebel against the present regime, the Russian K.G.B (State
Security Committee) instructed its agents in Armenia to execute an
unprecedented sentence in my regard. The judge Mnatsakan Martirosyan
pronounced my sentence without making any court hearing. My sentence
is unique because it is considered a secret sentence.

I announce that the judge decided my term of imprisonment, which is
kept in secrecy from the public in accordance with a special decision,
as well as, by the very secret verdict is determined the fact that I’m
deprived of the elementary human conditions -walks, toilet,
baths. There are several regimes of keeping the detainees in Armenia
depending on the level of dangerousness of the crime committed. These
are called `open’ regime, `half-open’ or `half closed’, and `closed’
regime. In the sentence of the judge in my regard is written in red
letters- inhumane regime.

I would like to inform you that it is clearly stated in the secret
sentence that visits, phone conversations with the relatives are not
allowed during the whole period of my imprisonment.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
