Baku, Fineko/abc.az. The Security Council held in Baku yesterday a
session presided by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev.

The Presidential Administration press service informs that the session
debated issues relating to internal socio-political stability in
Azerbaijan, occurring processes of economic development, settlement
of Armenian-Azerbaijan conflict, regional situation, relationships
with neighboring countries.

Addressing to the session, President Aliyev stated that in 2009
there should be implemented all the set challenges, realized concrete
programs and all the outlined plans put into reality.

"Fine socio-political conditions formed in Azerbaijan. The
recently-organized referendum and Azerbaijani people’s positive
attitude towards the set questions in the referendum voting testify
that unity between the people and power in Azerbaijan has strengthened
that gladdens much. Of course, it gives for us additional opportunities
for more successful reforms," he said.

The country’s leader also stressed that Azerbaijan played the
stabilizing role in the region.

"Despite our military capital has consolidated much over the past
few years, we are still living under conditions of war and that’s
why we must pay great attention to military industry and building
of our army. Certainly we hope that Armenia will have at last to
reckon with realities and the issue of Garabagh conflict between
our countries will find its solution. Participating in peaceful
negotiations constructively we show our adherence to them, but the
opposite party should demonstrate constructivism. The opposite side
should know that Nagorno Garabagh will never be given independence and
world community will hardly recognize independence of Nagorno Garabagh.

The Azerbaijani people and the Azerbaijani government will never
become reconciled to this occupation, policy of ethnic cleansing, and
temporary loss of lands. We have all grounds for release of occupied
territories that is confirmed by international law. The made decision
discussed recently in international organizations, including the UN,
testify once more of our rightness," President Aliyev said.

The Azerbaijani leader also emphasized that work done so far satisfied
him, but extra measures were needed to foster real sector of domestic
economy.

"It is necessary to pay more attention to solution of social and
economic matters, building of army," he said.
