ARMENIAN POLICE WAGES ACTIVE STRUGGLE AGAINST CORRUPTION

/PanARMENIAN.Net/ A significant shift in the struggle against
corruption has been registered among economic crime cases, Head of
Senior RA Police Department for Organized Crime Prevention (SDOCP)
Hunan Poghosyan told a news conference on corruption and economic
crimes prevention.

Armenian police discovered 392 cases of corruption in 2008 against 171
in 2007, including 24 cases for illegal appropriation and dissipation
of funds, 9 for commercial bribery, 139 for tax evasion, 25 for
abuse of power in trade organizations, 61 for abuse of authority,
as well as a number of cases for bribery, falsification of position,
judicial verdict evasion.

Hunan Poghosyan pointed out bribery as the most common among corruption
crimes. Thus, 65% of all cases were discovered by the police, while
premeditated bribery comprised 61% of cases registered.
