Ruling party rep denies reports on premier’s possible dismissal

Yerevan, 13 March: The secretary of the [ruling] Republican Party of
Armenia [RPA], Eduard Sharmazanov, said today in Yerevan that Armenian
Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan enjoys the confidence of the ruling
coalition.

Commenting on media reports about the forthcoming dismissal of the
prime minister and the government, Sharmazanov has said the RPA is
sure that Tigran Sargsyan and his cabinet are able to solve tasks that
face the country, the Mediamax news agency reported.

The spokesman said that the prime minister’s dismissal was not on the
RPA’s agenda. He described the rumours about the dismissal of the
prime minister as "a cheap trick of some political forces".

Sharmazanov said that it had been said at a recent session of the
RPA’s council said that the government’s and prime minister’s steps
aimed at overcoming consequences of the global crisis were "fully
justified".

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
