development

ArmInfo. Armenia should be ready to all scenarios of economic
development, Armenian Prime Minister Tigran Sarkisyan told journalists
yesterday and added that the government has drawn out different
scenarios: with the economic growth 9% or 4,5% or zero growth, with
economic fall by 1,8% or 4,5%.

"According to these scenarios we have to calculate the expected
macro-economic situation including the volumes of export, import,
balance of payments, incomes and expenses of the budget", – Sarkisyan
said.

When commenting on the last assessment of the World Bank that the GDP
growth will be at best zero in 2009, Sarkisyan said that all the
predictions and calculation of the government have been submitted to
the World Bank.

He also said that the WB does not encourage protectionism policy which
is conducted by the developed countries as well. "We share their
viewpoint as the policy of protectionism is deepening the world
economic crisis more and making it difficult for the developed
countries to cooperate in fighting the world financial and economic
crisis", – he said. As for the programmes of the government, the
premier said they are the temporary assistance to local businessmen in
the fight against the consequences of the world crisis.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
