Asian Development Bank Is Interested In North-South Corridor

ASIAN DEVELOPMENT BANK IS INTERESTED IN NORTH-SOUTH CORRIDOR

On February 16 the minister of transport and communication Gurgen
Sargsyan met with the director of transport and communication of the
ADB’s central and western department Hong Wang. According to the press
secretary of the minister, Gurgen Sargsyan underscored the construction
of the North-South highway which will connect Armenia and Georgia and
enable cargo transit, as well as the possibility of construction of
the railway Iran-Armenia, noting that the Asian Development Bank is
also interested in it.

Hong Wang informed that the feasibility study of the North-South
corridor is included in the 2009 program of the Asian Development
Bank, for which the bank will allocate 1 million U.S. dollars. Hong
Wang said the competition for the consultant to the program is being
summed up. The consultant will start work from mid-April. As to
financing the construction of the corridor, the representative of
the bank offered financing it in several assignments.
