TWO MONTHS’ ARREST CHOSEN AS PRECAUTIONARY MEASURE WITH RESPECT TO SARGIS HATSPANIAN

YEREVAN, NOVEMBER 10, NOYAN TAPAN. By the November 10 decision of the
court of general jurisdiction of Yerevan’s Kentron and Nork-Marash
communities, two months’ arrest has been chosen as a precautionary
measure with respect to the former azatamartik (freedom fighter),
French citizen of Armenian origin Sargis Hatspanian, NT correspondent
was informed by spokeswoman for the RA Cassation Court Alina Yengoyan.
To recap, S. Hatspanian is charged with a crime envisaged by the RA
Criminal Code’s Article 333 Part 2 Point 1 – false crime reporting,
combined with a false accusation of a grave or especially grave
crime. The article envisages imprisonment for a period of up to 5
years. S. Hatspanian made a statement in the press that the second
president of Armenia Robert Kocharian is preparing an attempt upon the
current president Serzh Sargsyan’s life. The bodies of the RA National
Security Service opened a criminal case based on this statement,
later Sargis Hatspanian was involved in the case as a suspect, then
as an accused person.
