EUROPE HAS VAGUE IDEA OF KARABAKH CONFLICT

/PanARMENIAN.Net/ The first-ever visit of NKR representatives to
Belgium succeeded, the head of Information Department of the NKR
president’s staff, David Babayan told a PanARMENIAN.Net reporter.

"Europe has a vague idea of the Karabakh conflict. The main goal
of the visit was to familiarize European structures with NKR and it
was achieved. We presented a report on Nagorno Karabakh and regional
problems at the Lessius Hogeschool, Antwerp and were offered to attend
universities in Germany," he said.

"As a matter of fact, the Caucasus doesn’t interest Europe, but for
integration issues," he added.

Babayan informed that NKR delegation lead by him and NKR Deputy Foreign
Minister Eduard Atanesyan met with EP members and representatives of
Armenian organizations in Brussels.

WORLD-FAMOUS INDESIT REMOVES MAP, CHALLENGING TERRITORIAL INTEGRITY OF AZERBAIJAN FROM THE WEBSITE

Indesit has removed a map of Azerbaijan without Nakhchivan and Nagorno
Karabakh from its official service-website in several hours after we
posted an article about it.

The company has received over 900 letters from the Day.Az readers.

World-famous Indesit has made a mistake on its website regarding
Azerbaijan, posting the map of Azerbaijan without Nagorno Karabakh
and Nakhchivan, says a letter from a Day.Az reader.

According to it, the website of the company fixes Azerbaijan in a
section "Service centers". If we follow the link "Azerbaijan", service
centers in our country as well as the so-called map of Azerbaijan
open. Why do we say "the so-called"? Because this map has nothing to
do with Azerbaijan. Nagorno Karabakh is marked with a white spot and
Nakhchivan is completely absent there.

"I believe that owing to Day.Az and letters of your permanent readers
this mistake will be corrected soon. No one, either a country, a
company or a person, has a right to distort the map of our country",
says the letter.

Indesit is among "three" European producers of home appliances. The
company produces appliances marked Indesit, Hotpoint, Ariston
and Scholtes. In 2007 the turnover of the company made EUR
3,438,000,000. It has over 17,000 employees.

"RECOGNIZE ARMENIAN MONUMENTS"

In the frames of "Recognize Armenian Monuments" multi language
information billboards and signs have been placed in Noravank,
near the temple. In the frames of the current program, billboards
have been placed near Garni temple, in the center of Gyumri city,
in Zvartnots temple, and Noravank.

Note that famous Armenian miniaturist-sculptor, architect Momik has
been working in Noravank. Momik’s last creation – the tomb-church
devoted to Orbelyans princely house and Momik’s own gravestone are
located here.

"Recognize Armenian Monuments" informative program is supported by
VivaCell-MTS. According to the press service of VivaCell-MTS, the
program’s slogan is "the protection of cultural values and culture
is everybody’s duty".

MASS FIGHT BETWEEN ARMENIANS AND AZERBAIJANIS AVERTED IN MOSCOW

Moscow militia men averted a mass fight, which was to involve about
50 citizens of Armenia and Azerbaijan.

According to the state department of internal affairs of Moscow,
the incident occurred late Saturday at Vinokurov’s street.

Local residents told militiamen that a large group of Caucasians,
looking aggressive, gathered at an area in front of the house no
19. There were about 50 people there, when militiamen arrived at
the spot.

The fight had already started when militiamen arrived, but they
managed to avert the further developments.

About 20 people were detained, while the rest managed to escape.

ARMENIAN DEFENCE MINISTER: WITHDRAWAL OF ARMENIAN PEACE-MAKING SUBDIVISION FROM IRAQ HAS NO POLITICAL CONTEXT

ArmInfo. Armenian Defence Minister Seyran Ohanyan met yesterday
special representative of NATO secretary general for the Caucasus
and Central Asia Robert Simmons.

As press-service of Armenian Defence Ministry reported, over the
meeting they discussed the process of reforms in the Armenian armed
forces. The minister said revisiting of the defence strategy will be
prior. They also touched on the course of the NATO exercise within the
frames of Partnership for Peace programme. At the end of the meeting
Armenian defence minister said withdrawal of Armenian peace-making
subdivision from Iraq has no political context since the authorities
of Iraq had stated they themselves can control the situation in
the country.

Today three main topics are discussed in the political field of
the country’, – Secretary of NSC Artur Bagdasaryan told journalists
in Gyumri.

He also added the first topic is the Armenian-Russian relations,
which are at the top level, and the forthcoming visit of the Russian
President Dmitriy Medvedev to Armenia is evidence of it. "There are
170 inter-state and inter-governmental agreements between Armenia
and Russia. The strategic cooperation between Armenia and Russia
is at the top level. Today Armenia is within the strategic and
political bloc with Russia within the frames of Collective Security
Treaty Organization, where serious strategical programmes have been
implemented. The second topic is the Karabakh conflict settlement. The
president reiterated many times he is not going to make any compromises
in the matter of the Karabakh conflict settlement. And finally, the
third topic, which is still relevant today, is Armenia’s relations
with European structures. Armenia continues developing relations
with European organizations, and the fact that Armenian President
Serzh Sargsyan charged to set up an inter-department commission,

PRESIDENT OF ARMENIA ATTENDS CELEBRITIES ON OCCASION OF GYUMRI TOWN DAY

ArmInfo. President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan attended the celebrities
on occasion of the Day of the town of Gyumri.

Alongside with the president, Vardan Ghukasyan, Gyumri Mayor, a member
of the Republican Party of Armenia Council, Lida Nanyan, Governor
of Shirak region and many parliamentarians attended the opening of
the Monument for Vardan Mamikonyan in front of the new building of
Gyumri Municipality Saturday. The president was also present at the
ceremony of laying the foundation of 400 new flats that will be built
till 2010 in the district Ani in Gyumri.

Deputy Minister of Urban Development Narek Sargsyan told media
the program of disaster area restoration can be divided into three
key parts. The first is the necessity of housing provision to some
7000 people that have become homeless after Spitak earthquake. The
president instructed settling the problem of homeless within the
coming 2-3 years. The second is the constantly implemented programs on
restoration and development of general education schools, sport schools
and health facilities. The third part is aimed at development of the
regional center of Gyumri, particularly, the historical area Kobayr.

For his part, Urban Development Minister Vardan Vardanyan congratulated
the residents of Gyumri and underlined that housing conditions of
60,000 homeless families have been improved since the independence
of Armenia due to the funds of the state budget, Lincy Foundaton and
Hayastan All Armenian Fund. He said that housing problems of 6985
families will be settled till 2013. The minister said a contract was
made with Glendale Hills Company for construction in the districts
Ani and Mush till 2010. The state budget will allocate 40 billion
drams for construction in the town of Gyumri. In total, the state
budget approves 80-82 billion drams for restoration of disaster area,
Vardan Vardanyan said.

RUSSIAN PRESIDENT ARRIVING IN ARMENIA TODAY

Yerevan on a 2-day formal visit today on invitation of his Armenian
counterpart Serzh Sargsyan.

The two Presidents are expected to discuss bilateral relations and
the situation in the South Caucasus.

RUSSIAN PRESIDENT ARRIVES IN YEREVAN TODAY

ArmInfo. President of Russia Dmitry Medvedev arrives in Yerevan
this evening.

The official two-day visit of the Russian president will be held on
invitation of President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan. D. Medvedev will

ArmInfo. Armenia is fully ready to be member of the ‘Partnership for
Peace’ programme, Commander of the land component of NATO’s allied
forces "Heidelberg", Lieutenant-General Roland Kather said during
a demonstrative operation on response to crisis situations, held on
the shooting ground of the Military Institute after Vazgen Sarkisyan
of Armenia’s Defense Ministry, within the frames of the exercises
‘Cooperative Lancer-2008′ held in Armenia. Armenia’s Defense Minister
Seyran Ohanyan also watched the demonstrative operation together with
the American General. He said his deputy, Lieutenant-General John
Gardner confirmed that the government and Defense Ministry of Armenia
made great efforts for successful conduct of the exercises.’I thanked
the Armenian DM for assistance in successful conduct of exercises’,
the General said.

To note, the exerбises ‘Cooperative Longbow/Lancer-2008’ are held in
Armenia within the frames of NATO programme ‘Partnership for Peace’
and Istanbul cooperation initiative.
