ARMENIAN GDP OF JANUARY-AUGUST ROSE BY 10,3 PERCENT

Armenian gross domestic product (GDP) of January-August, 2008, rose
by 10,3 percent to 2 trillion 164 billion 567,8 million drams (about
7 billion 68,44 million US dollars) compared with the same period of
last year.

Gross agricultural output increased by 7,8 percent, volume of
construction – 12,8 percent, retail trade turnover – 6,3 percent and
volume of services – 15,1 percent.

The volume of foreign trade turnover compared with January-August of
last year rose by 24,8 percent to 3 billion 308,9 million US dollars.

Export decreased by 4,8 percent to 696,8 million US dollars. Import
increased by 36 percent to 2 billion 612,1 million US dollars.

The consumer prices rose by 9,5 percent in January-August compared
with the same period of 2007.

The number of the officially registered unemployed at the end of
August of this year decreased by 7,8 percent to 75.600.

The average monthly wages of the first eight months of this year
were 88.983 drams increasing by 21,2 percent compared with the same
period of last year; in public sector – 62.721 drams (increased by
17,8 percent), in private sector – 110.154 drams (increased by 20,1
percent).
