YEGHEGNADZOR, September 19. /ARKA/. Armenian Government approved the
program on protection of children’s rights and the respective list of
measures for 2009. The program is in tune with the government-approved
Sustainable Development Concept (poverty reduction strategy)
and aims at fulfilling international obligations on protection of
children’s rights, Armenian Minister of Labor and Social Issues Arsen
Hambartsumyan said.

Social reforms to be implemented under the program are to help
ensure social protection of children living in poor conditions and
orphans. The program also provides for healthcare and educational
projects.

Implementation of the program is expected to increase the reproduction
potential, improve medical and demographic indicators, and raise the
quality and accessibility of services for mothers and children.

Armenian ministries of healthcare, culture, education and science,
as well as the country’s police took part in the development of
the program.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
