Visiting Armenian Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian conferred on
Tuesday with Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani on ways of expanding mutual
relations as well as on regional developments.

According to International Bureau and Protocol Department of Majlis, at
the meeting Larijani described current ties between the two countries
as very good and said that the two sides should spare no effort to
bolster and broaden such ties.

Given the historical ties and commonalties between the two nations,
he said that such deep-rooted ties demand that both sides explore
untapped potentials to expand bonds.

Referring to the recent sensitive developments in the Caucasus region,
he urged the countries in the region to exercise more vigilance.

Recent developments in the Caucasus proved that the era of
unilateralism is over, Larijani said.

He called for the formation of regional pacts to deal with such
developments in terms of security.

Iranian Majlis is ready for any type of cooperation and coordination
with countries in the region and Armenia in particular, he said.

Iranian Majlis is prepared to further broaden and deepen parliamentary
relations with Armenia, Larijani said while extending an invitation
to his Armenia counterpart to pay an official visit to Iran.

The Armenian foreign minister, for his part, described Iran as a big
neighbor with significant role in regional developments and called
for the expansion of cooperation in various sectors between the
two countries.

Iranian Majlis played a crucial role in the Islamic Revolution of
Iran, he said and called for expanding parliamentary cooperation and
ensuring a more active role of parliamentary friendship groups.

Referring to the current developments in the Caucasus region, he
said that it is vital for regional problems to be settled with the
cooperation of countries in the region and called on foreign countries
not to interfere in it.

He also lauded the constructive role of Iran in the restoration of
tranquility and stability in the region.

In conclusion, at the meeting, the Armenian foreign minister extended
an invitation from Armenian parliament speaker to Larijani to pay an
official visit to the country.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
