Armenia may change its policy on the Nagornyy Karabakh conflict in
the wake of the Georgia crisis, a high-ranking Azerbaijani official
has said.

In an interview with the Public TV of Azerbaijan, Novruz Mammadov, head
of the foreign relations department of the Azerbaijani presidential
administration, said that the crisis in Georgia showed that small
countries have to conduct an independent foreign policy and should
not rely on one major power alone.

"Some 30 per cent of the supplies vital for Armenia come from Iran
and 70 per cent from Georgia. When suddenly one connection was halted
they [Armenian leaders] realized that if this situation goes on for
a longer period it will result in a catastrophe," Novruz Mammadov
said. He added that Yerevan may adjust its policy as a result.

Novruz Mammadov also said that Azerbaijan has no plans to give up
on the OSCE Minsk Group’s efforts to mediate the Nagornyy Karabakh
conflict between Baku and Yerevan.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
