The mayors of Sofia Boyko Borisov and of Erevan Ervand Zaharyan
inaugurated Wednesday the monument "Hachkar" in the "Erevan" park
located behind the building of the Agriculture Ministry in Sofia.

The monument is a donation by the Armenian capital and has been made
in the traditional Armenian artistic style of carving crosses on stone.

In his speech at the official inauguration ceremony, the Armenian
Ambassador in Bulgaria Sergey Manassaryan, pointed out that Armenians
have always seen Bulgarians as people that have extended a helping
hand during Armenia’s most difficult times.

Manassaryan further said that the roots of the friendship between the
two countries date from the National Liberation Movement in Bulgaria.

"Last year we renamed the street in Erevan, leading to the Bulgarian
Embassy to "Sofia," an act that was met very well by the residents of
Erevan. Now this monument becomes yet another symbol of the friendship
between our people," the Ambassador stated.

The monument was sanctified by priests from the Armenian Church
in Sofia.

The mayors signed a memorandum of collaboration and exchanged plaques
with the coats of arms of both cities.

Borisov also received an invitation to visit Erevan during the city’s
anniversary celebrations on October 10 and 11. This year Erevan marks
2790 years of its establishment.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
