UNEMPLOYMENT RATE 6.3% IN ARMENIA IN JAN-MAY

Unemployment rate was 6.3% in Armenia in January-May against 7.2%
in the same period of last year.

The RA National Statistical Service reports that the total number
of economically active population was 1,172,700 people in Armenia in
the period, including 1,098,400 employed.

The number of job seekers officially registered by the country’s
State Employment Service had totaled 91,600 people by the end of May,
including 78,700 people out of occupation.

76,400 people received the status of unemployed. Women constituted
62.1% (57,100 women) of the unemployed officially registered in May.

Only 17,200 unemployed people were entitled to benefits at the end of
May against 13,400 people in May last year with the monthly benefit
averaging 13,857 drams (11,052drams in May 2007).

According to statistics, official demand for labor force was 1000
people (79 people out of occupation per vacancy) in Armenia. -0–
