His call for the recognition of the `Armenian genocide’ is calculated
on gaining the backing of the Armenian lobby in the election
The US Democratic presidential candidate, Barack Obama, has called
for the recognition of the so-called Armenian genocide [killings of
Armenians in Ottoman Turkey in 1915]. Obama’s call has generated
wide-ranging reactions. Some experts believe that the call of the
Democratic candidate is meant to gain the support of the Armenian
lobby. However, there are also experts who think the other way
round. They believe Obama is pro-Armenian and therefore, he issued
this call.
Political expert Vafa Quluzada described Barack Obama’s call for the
recognition of the so-called Armenian genocide as manoeuvring. "US
presidential candidates make similar calls and they are simply meant to
gain the support of the Armenian lobby. I am sure that if Barack Obama
is elected president, his call to this end will lose its topicality
and the USA will continue pursing its traditional policy. That is to
say, US-Turkish friendship will continue. Moreover, I do not believe
that Barack Obama would be elected president."
