TIGRAN SARGSSIAN RECEIVED THE LETTER
[06:04 pm] 08 May, 2008

A number of citizens, former residents of Northern
Avenue and Amiryan, Abovyan, Koghbatsi, and Byuzandi
Streets gathered at the Governmental Buildings
expecting a solution to their problem from the
newly-elected Prime Minister Tigran Sargssian. These
were residents recently evicted from their houses for
national interests.

A week ago the protesters directed a letter to Serzh
Sargssian but it was sent back to the Municipality
though, according to Vachagan Hakobian, Chairman of
the `Protection of Property Rights’ NGO, they had a
notification against it in the letter.

Last year when Serzh Sargssian received some of the
evicts, he publicly promised to find an immediate
solution to their prblem. However, the problem is
still unsettled.

Handing the letter to Tigran Sargssian, the protesters
went away. In case they do not get a satisfactory
answer, the demonstrators are planning to post a
letter to the EC Commissioner of Human Rights.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
