SOMERVILLE DROPS OUT OF "NO PLACE FOR HATE" PROGRAM

Somerville – Following a number of cities in the area disgusted the ADL
won’t honor the Armenian Genocide, Somerville has shed its moniker of
"No Place for Hate."
It is now part of the "Partnership for Working Toward Inclusive
Communities."
Somerville joined communities like Lexington, Bedford and Watertown
after the Anti-Defamation League waffled on calling the mass killings
of up to 1.5 million ethnic Armenians at the hands of the Ottoman
Empire during and after World War I a genocide.
No Place for Hate is an ADL program.
"We think it is an important message to send," Somerville spokesman
Lesley Hawkins said. The announcement was timed today to coincide
with the day the genocide is commemorated.
Somerville is dropping the ADL but picking up a National League
of Cities program – "Partnership for Working Toward Inclusive
Communities."
