Exports From Armenia Increase By 6.2%, Imports By 30.2% In January-F

EXPORTS FROM ARMENIA INCREASE BY 6.2%, IMPORTS BY 30.2% IN JANUARY-FEBRUARY 2008 ON SAME MONTHS OF LAST YEAR

YEREVAN, APRIL 22, NOYAN TAPAN. Foreign trade of Armenia made 211.4 bln
drams or 687 mln USD in January-February 2008, including exports of
44.2 bln drams (143.6 mln USD) and imports of 167.2 bln drams (543.4
mln USD). The foreign trade balance was negative by 123 bln drams
(399.7 mln USD), the balance without cargos received as humanitarian
aid was negative by 121.2 bln drams (394 mln USD).

According to the RA National Statistical Service, exports grew by 6.2%,
imports – by 30.2% in January-February 2008 on the same months of 2007.

Exports to CIS countries amounted to 41 mln 799.9 thousand USD in
January-February 2008, growing by 0.1% on the same period of 2007,
while imports from CIS countries made 176 mln 119.7 thousand USD,
growing by 30.6%.

Exports to Russia made 27 mln 140.1 thousand USD (0.4% decline),
imports – 113 mln 490.6 thousand USD (23.9% growth); exports to Georgia
– 8 mln 322.3 thousand USD (7.7% decline), imports – 22 mln 295.6
thousand USD (30.7% growth); exports to Ukraine – 3 mln 364.8 thousand
USD (30.7% growth), imports – 32 mln 798.9 thousand USD (52.6% growth).

Exports to EU countries amounted to 80 mln 477.3 thousand USD
in the period under review, increasing by 23.5% as compared with
January-February 2007, imports from EU countries made 159 mln 338.2
thousand USD, growing by 28.2%.

Exports to Belgium made 13 mln 515.9 thousand USD (15% growth), imports
– 22 mln 8.8 thousand USD (15.3% decline); exports to Bulgaria – 6 mln
744.4 thousand USD (5.2fold growth), imports – 2 mln 794.7 housand
USD (45.5% decline); exports to Germany – 24 mln 692.5 thousand USD
(10% growth), imports – 18 mln 972.5 thousand USD (54.7% growth);
exports to France – 2 mln 615.8 thousand USD (52.4% growth), imports
– 16 mln 237.6 thousand USD (2.4fold growth); exports to Greece –
101.9 thousand USD (28.8% decline), imports – 2 mln 855.6 thousand USD
(78.2% decline).

Exports from Armenia to Italy made 6 mln 124.7 thousand USD (41.3%
growth) in January-February 2008, imports made 14 mln 407.4 thousand
USD (20.1% growth); exports to the Netherlands – 22 mln 880.2
thousand USD (36.2% growth), imports – 7 mln 667.7 thousand USD (228%
growth); exports to the UK – 1 mln 322.7 thousand USD (5.3fold growth),
imports – 15 mln 701.3 thousand UD (10.9% decline); exports to Spain –
29.9 thousand USD (99.3% decline), imports – 3 mln 860 thousand USD
(142.5% growth).

Exports to other countries (besides CIS and EU countries) made 21 mln
340.6 thousand USD in January-February 2008 (24.5% decline), imports –
207 mln 892.5 thousand USD (31.4% growth), including exports to Israel
– 1 mln 425.9 thousand USD (20.2% decline), imports – 331,7 thousand
USD (95.9% decline); exports to the U.S. – 5 mln 679.6 thousand USD
(20.2% decline), imports – 22 mln 678.7 thousand USD (8.4% decline);
exports to the UAE – 3 mln 648 thousand USD (2.9fold growth),
imports – 51 mln 732.3 thousand USD (27.4% growth); exports to Iran
– 3 mln 500.6 thousand USD (25.5% growth), imports – 21 mln 302.1
thousand USD (20.7% growth); exports to Turkey – 311.8 thousand USD
(52.4% decline), imports – 15 mln 685.2 thousand USD (52.1% growth);
exports to Switzerland – 3 mln 784.9 thousand USD (48.2% decline),
imports – 10 mln 71.6 thousand USD (2% decline); exports to China –
238.5 thousand USD (69.4% growth), imports – 14 mln 333.4 thousand
USD (25.9% growth). No goods were exported from Armenia to Panama in
January-February 2008, while imports from this country made 17 mln
778.6 thousand USD (60.4% growth).
