RA NA SPEAKER, PACE PRESIDENT MEET IN SAINT PETERSBURG

On April 3 in Saint Petersburg Speaker of RA National Assembly Tigran
Torosyan met with the President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the
Council of Europe Luís Maria de Puig. The democratic processes in
Armenia, the presidential elections, the post-election events were
at the core of the meeting.

At the beginning of the meeting Mr. Torosyan congratulated Luís Maria
de Puig for being elected the President of PACE, highly appreciating
his commitment to Council of Europe principles and values, the
activity and reputation of the organization. Mr. Torosyan appreciated
the balanced reaction of PACE to the events in Armenia, attaching
importance to CoE role and mission in solving the existing problems.

Turning to the post-election events in Armenia, Mr. Puig noted the
Parliamentary Assembly is worried about the developments and said he
is personally interested in the deepening of democratic principles
and values in Armenia. The Council of Europe believes in Armenia’s
commitment to CoE values and principles. He noted that Armenia is
a member of the Council of Europe family and PACE will do its best
to ensure the continuousness of stability and democratic processes
in Armenia.

Mr. Luís Maria de Puig also turned to the stability and development
in the South Caucasus and informed that he is going to pay a visit
to the region in the near future.
