COUNCIL OF EUROPE COMMISSIONER FOR HUMAN RIGHTS ARRIVES IN ARMENIA

YEREVAN, MARCH 12, NOYAN TAPAN. RA Foreign Minister Vardan Oskanian and
Thomas Hammarberg, the Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights,
at the March 12 meeting, touched upon the presidential elections held
in Armenia and the post-electoral developments.

At the guest’s request V. Oskanian presented the March 1 events and
the events of the following day, the condition of human rights under
the state of emergency in Yerevan. He also said that the limitations
on media will be also liquidated one of these days.

T. Hammarberg said that he will have meetings with representatives of
all power wings, as well as opposition leaders, will visit isolators
and hospitals, which will give a possibility to form a realistic idea
about the processes going on in the country.

As Noyan Tapan was informed by the RA Foreign Ministry Press and
Information Department, both sides mentioned that all necessary steps
should be undertaken to normalize the situation as quickly as possible.
