TEHRAN, March 2 (MNA) — A package comprising 600 books was donated
by the Iranian Embassy in Armenia to the central library of Yerevan
State University (YSU) during a ceremony last week, the Islamic
Culture and Relations Organization announced on Sunday.

The package comprised source books on Persian literature and Iranology
and included 30 books translated into Armenian by the Iranian cultural
attache’s office in Yerevan.

"These books are rare and thus difficult to procure, so they are very
valuable to us," YSU’s Iranian Studies Department director Garnik
Asatryan said during the ceremony.

He described the package as very helpful for the development of
studies in the field of Iranian culture.

According to Iranian cultural attache Reza Atufi, YSU’s officials have
agreed to establish a special section for books on Iranian studies
at their central library and Iran is willing to collaborate with the
YSU on this project.

"Students regularly requested that we supply them with books on
Persian literature, but we could not provide any reliable sources
due to the fact that our library lacked books on this subject,"
library director Ashot Alexanyan said.

"From now on, as a result of this donation of works we will be able
to provide our students with resources," he noted.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
