EU SPECIAL REPRESENTATIVE BELIEVES THAT THE MEETING BETWEEN ILHAM ALIYEV AND THE NEWLY-ELECTED ARMENIAN PRESIDENT MEETS THE INTERESTS OF BOTH SIDES

Yerevan /Mediamax/. Special Representative of the European Union in
the South Caucasus Peter Semneby stated that "the meeting between
President Aliyev and the newly-elected Armenian President before the
elections in Azerbaijan meets the interests of both sides".

Trend reports that Peter Semneby expressed confidence that the election
of the new President of Armenia will become a push in development of
the negotiation process on Nagorno-Karabakh.

"I hope the sides will find common language and presidential elections
in Armenia will become a push for intensification of the negotiation
process. It is very important that the talks were not interrupted
during the electoral processes, which were held in Armenia and which
will take place in Azerbaijan in the second half of 2008", EU Special
representative stated.
