Yerevan /Mediamax/. "It’s Your Choice" NGO, over 4 thousand
representatives of which were carrying out observation over the
presidential elections in Armenia, stated today that "a number
of violations and shortcomings cast a shadow on our expectations
concerning democratic elections".

Mediamax reports that the Chairman of "It’s Your Choice" Harutiun
Hambardzumian admitted that in a considerable part of the polling
stations peaceful atmosphere was ruling and legality was observed
while voting and the vote count.

At the same time, he noted, on the day of elections, certain tenseness
was noticeable. "Certain incidents were conditioned by the inadmissible
manifestations of intolerance in the process of the non-civilized
pre-election campaign", Hambardzumian stated.

"It’s Your Choice" gave positive assessment to the operative manner
of information provision on the vote count by CEC, as well as the
actions, taken up by law-enforcement bodies, in connection with the
registered violations.

The report of the organization notes the fact of procedural violations
while realizing the voting and the vote count, gathering of electors
in polling stations, violation of the right of proxies and media
representatives, the problems with the electors’ lists.

Harutiun Hambardzumian stated that the fixed violations and
shortcomings are a result of "insufficient electoral culture and
defective measures for publishing the infringers".

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
