IN POST-ELECTION PERIOD THE PARTIES WILL UNITE IN THE
NAME OF FUTURE

"Six parties – National Democratic Union, National
Democrats Alliance, National State Party, National
Consent Mission and Constitutional Rights Union aim at
uniting as bearers of national democratic principles
and values. The aim is to determine type of tomorrow’s
Armenia, and they are going to carry out it by forming
national democratic movement: making the political
sphere more ideological and bigger the parties", said
Vazgen Manukian’s partisan alliance council member,
Chairman of National Democratic Party Shavarsh
Kocharian at "Tesaket" club on February 7.

Highlighting the importance of the union, creation of
bigger parties and ideological tendencies Shavarsh
Kocharian considered the unification as delayed, "…It
might take place in 1990s. The political streams
should unite and not split".

Anyway, NDP Chairman believes that their unification
will have an efficient impact.

"We should return to the sources that existed after
the movement, when the society was united, and there
were all prerequisites for Armenia to have healthy and
rival political system. Unfortunately we missed the
opportunity".

According to him, today’s undertaking is not a
unification, but the 6 parties’ approach that demands
serious legal processes (choice of the name, the
charter, etc).

The doors of post-election unification are not closed
and they hope for other parties’ participation; what
about ARF Dashnaktsutyun Shavarsh Kocharian stated,
"There are many things that unite us with
Dashnaktsutyun, but not as many to join them".

"In the future we’ll have deeper cooperation with
Dashnaktsutyun", he added.

Speaking of RA presidential elections NDP Chairman
Shavarsh Kocharian considered the second round as
possible in case of rapid growth in Vazgen Manukian’s
rating that will lead to a competition between Serge
Sargsian and Vazgen Manukian.

According to Shavarsh Kocharian, present-day low
rating of Vazgen Manukian is conditioned with the fact
that other candidates started their campaigns earlier.
But they are firm and have many things to do in order
to make their candidate’s rating higher. In case of
failure the elections will have one round, as,
according to Shavarsh Kocharian, no one can be a rival
to Serge Sargsian besides Vazgen Manukian.

Shavarsh Kocharian expressed his dissatisfaction with
Public TV and Radio, and the press of the authorities
in general. He advised to compare them with the media
that supports Levon Ter-Petrosian and draw some
conclusions.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
